Kristy Manning Ringette Stewardship Scholarship
The Kristy Manning Ringette Stewardship Scholarship recognizes graduating athletes within the Fort McMurray Ringette Association (FMRA) who have demonstrated leadership, sportsmanship, volunteerism and a meaningful commitment to growing the sport of ringette in our community.
Purpose
Each year, up to three (3) recipients will be selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship. Funds must be applied toward post-secondary education within two (2) years of being awarded.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be a current or former FMRA athlete in good standing.
- Be graduating high school in the current academic year.
- Have been involved with FMRA for a minimum of six (6) seasons of competitive play.
- Demonstrate strong character, leadership, and sportsmanship.
- Show involvement in volunteerism through coaching, junior coaching or refereeing in the FMRA or other local community sports or community contributions. Minimum of three (3) years.
- Intend to pursue post-secondary studies at a recognized institution.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- A written submission (500-800 words) describing the applicant’s ringette experience, leadership qualities, volunteer involvement, and how they embody the spirit of stewardship within the FMRA.
- A brief summary of post-secondary plans (intended program and/or institution).
- One reference letter from a coach, teacher, employer, or community leader.
- A summary of volunteer involvement within FMRA or the wider community.
Selection Process
- A selection committee appointed by the FMRA Executive will review all applications.
- The committee will evaluate applications based on demonstrated stewardship, leadership, community involvement, character, and alignment with FMRA values.
- Up to three (3) finalists will be chosen each year to receive the scholarship.
Scholarship Disbursement
- Scholarship funds will be released upon proof of enrollment in a recognized post-secondary institution (university, college, or trade school).
- Funds must be claimed and used within two (2) years of the award date.
- If a recipient does not enroll within this timeframe, FMRA reserves the right to reallocate the funds.
Application Deadline
- Applications must be submitted by May 30th of the current ringette season.
- Recipients will formally be announced by June 15th.
